Conductor and choirmaster


Eric-Olof Söderström graduated in church music from the Sibelius Academy and qualified as a cantor and an organist. He went on to study choral conducting with Harald Andersen, Eric Ericson and Peter Erdelyi.

Söderström received his diploma in choral conducting in 1985 and went on to study orchestral conducting with Jorma Panula, graduating in 1988. He also attended master classes held by Jussi Jalas and Arvid Jansons, and studied in Vienna from 1988 to 1989. Söderström founded the Finnish Chamber Choir for his diploma concert, and it won the Adult chorus category at the EBU Let the Peoples Sing choir competition in 1985.

Söderström has held the position of choirmaster at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Finnish National Opera. He has been the Artistic Director of the Radio Chamber Choir and the Mikkeli City Orchestra, and served as guest director of the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir (Stockholm) from 2006 to 2007. Thereafter he was the Artistic Director of the Kampin Laulu, the visiting conductor of the Helsinki Chamber Choir, and established the Oratorio Choir Uusimaa, active with the Orchestra of Lohja 2011-2015.

He is also the cantor and music director of the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran parish of Porvoo Cathedral, incorporating the 12-member Ensemble del Duomo.
